Judging by the Cover 9/27/2020 episode

Hey everyone, Nate here. I just wanted to post these sick covers that Ben will be going over for the episode. You can look at this blog while you listen to the podcast for added enjoyment. Who knows, maybe you’ll like a book so much you’ll find a new favorite book and you can annoy Ben on twitter until he makes us read it. All the best!

1) Sparks by CJ LaPolla

Goodreads URL: goodreads.com/book/show/38606071

2. Pendragon by DJ MacHalle

Goodreads: https://www.goodreads.com/book/show/833710.The_Merchant_of_Death

What Ben didn’t know is that I read this in Jr. High. I was interested to see if it was actually good or if I just liked not-so-great books back then. I can tell you 100% that it is not a secret Pendragon book. Checkmate, Ben.

3) The Empty Door by ER Mason

Goodreads: https://www.goodreads.com/book/show/10062169-the-empty-door

$10 to whomever can explain this one to me.

4) The Prophecy of Shadows

Goodreads: https://www.goodreads.com/book/show/11992012-the-prophecy-of-shadows

5) How to Pick Up Women with a Drunk Space Ninja

Goodreads: https://www.goodreads.com/book/show/42113706-how-to-pick-up-women-with-a-drunk-space-ninja

6) Halo: The Fall of Reach (original cover) by Eric S. Nylund

Goodreads: https://www.goodreads.com/book/show/60229.Halo

7) Called by Robert J. Crane

Goodreads: https://www.goodreads.com/book/show/20742533-called

I actually thought this looked pretty good. But I have no taste. I changed my mind when I heard it was trying to be like Jim Butcher. To be fair I’ve never read the Dresden Files I’ve only experienced it by cultural osmosis. Maybe someday I’ll give it a fair shake.

8) Terminus Cycle by Dave Walsh

Goodreads: https://www.goodreads.com/book/show/53309725-terminus-cycle

Also every time I hear Ben say “shrouded in mystery” when talking about this title I think about the Futurama skit of the Scary Door. Where there’s mystery on everything in the hotel and clearly the “mystery” is bodily fluid. I get a chuckle every time.

9) Nothing to See Here by Kevin Wilson

Goodreads: https://www.goodreads.com/book/show/42519313-nothing-to-see-here

We’re going to read this at some point, I almost guarantee it. I almost selected it for this year’s book list.

10) Caped by Darius Brasher

Goodreads: https://www.goodreads.com/book/show/32935009-caped

This is not the photo we looked at when we initially saw Caped. I’m keeping it in this post though because this is a heck of a lot better in every way. Except for one: there’s no cape here. Really letting me down, Darius.

That’s the list. Which one would you have chosen to read from this list? Did we make the right call? Be sure to let us (really, Ben) know about it @WABPod. We discuss Lovecraft next month. I’m excited!

Nate Creed
